Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High is exceptionally prou Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High is exceptionally proud of their consistent outstanding NSC history results, with many learners achieving distinctions year after year. In 2025, the school recorded 34 A symbols from the 51 candidates who wrote the NSC exam, and was named as the top school in the country for history!

This success is no accident, it stems from meticulous curriculum planning, structured learner-educator engagement and constant departmental collaboration. Learners benefit from carefully crafted notes, practice essays and source-based skill work, while educators emphasise precision, contextual understanding and disciplined writing structures. Regular intervention lessons, enrichment tours and a supportive classroom culture ensure that learners are not only prepared academically but also motivated and confident. The combination of rigorous planning, innovative teaching strategies and close monitoring of progress has firmly established GHS as the country’s top-performing school in History.

We are proud of both our staff and our girls!

At GHS, we are celebrating Peer Counsellor Awarene At GHS, we are celebrating Peer Counsellor Awareness Week and today’s assembly was dedicated to the Peer Counsellors, who personified different emotions in an engaging “court of emotions”, where various cases were presented and debated. A judge presided over the proceedings, while the audience decided whether each emotion should be “in” or “out” in different situations based on the arguments presented.

The session created a meaningful space for reflection on how emotions influence our responses in everyday life, encouraging our girls to develop emotional awareness and make thoughtful decisions. It further reinforced the importance of navigating challenges with confidence while remaining true to who they are, rather than changing themselves to please others. Many more enriching activities are planned throughout the week.
