Nashua Green Elly Rugby Festival
September 26

On Saturday, 26 September 2026, Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School will host the inaugural Nashua Green Ellys Rugby Festival at the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Pieter Booysen Sports Park. This landmark occasion marks the first-ever 15-a-side U18 all-girls rugby festival in South Africa, inspired by the Lady Springboks’ trailblazing performance at the 2025 Rugby World Cup. Our aims:
- Showcase female rugby talent across KwaZulu-Natal and beyond.
- Position Pietermaritzburg as a hub for resilience, grit, and sporting excellence.
- Break barriers and create pathways for young women in rugby.
Highlights
- One-day format with each team playing two matches.
- Formation of a 15-side All Stars team selected by qualified selectors.
- 10 confirmed teams, with up to 2 additional entries possible, bringing together over 230 players plus officials and supporters.
- Nashua as Title Sponsor, providing branded tee-shirts, goodie bags, and transport support to ensure inclusivity.
- Coverage amplified through SuperSport Schools livestreams and GHS’s digital platforms.
Venue
- Two rugby fields, clubhouse, changerooms, and ample parking at UKZN Pieter Booysen Sports Park.
The Nashua Green Elly Rugby Festival is more than a sporting event — it is a celebration of opportunity, empowerment, and the future of women’s rugby in South Africa.
