SUMMARY:34th Val Fowler Basketball Tournament
DESCRIPTION:The 34th Annual Val Fowler Invitational Basketball Tournament\, proudly organised by Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School (GHS)\, took place from 6–9 August 2026. \nThis premier event welcomed 40 teams from across South Africa and beyond\, competing in both A and B divisions to showcase the very best of schoolgirl basketball. This year for the first time we also hosted 16 U16 teams. Recognised as the largest all-girls invitational basketball tournament in South Africa\, the Val Fowler Tournament has built a reputation for excellence\, attracting elite local and international teams. With FIBA-accredited referees ensuring world-class standards\, and university scouts from across South Africa in attendance\, the tournament has become a critical platform for identifying and nurturing future talent.  \nThe event enjoyed extensive media coverage\, with matches live-streamed on SuperSport Schools via their app. Over its 34-year history\, GHS’s First Team has claimed the championship title an extraordinary 24 times\, with other stalwarts such as Pretoria Girls’ High School and Lereko Secondary School (Free State) leaving their mark on the courts. DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, 26 September 2026\, Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School will host the inaugural Nashua Green Ellys Rugby Festival at the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Pieter Booysen Sports Park. This landmark occasion marks the first-ever 15-a-side U18 all-girls rugby festival in South Africa\, inspired by the Lady Springboks’ trailblazing performance at the 2025 Rugby World Cup. Our aims: \n\nShowcase female rugby talent across KwaZulu-Natal and beyond.\nPosition Pietermaritzburg as a hub for resilience\, grit\, and sporting excellence.\nBreak barriers and create pathways for young women in rugby.\n\nHighlights \n\nOne-day format with each team playing two matches.\nFormation of a 15-side All Stars team selected by qualified selectors.\n10 confirmed teams\, with up to 2 additional entries possible\, bringing together over 230 players plus officials and supporters.\nNashua as Title Sponsor\, providing branded tee-shirts\, goodie bags\, and transport support to ensure inclusivity.\nCoverage amplified through SuperSport Schools livestreams and GHS’s digital platforms.\n\nVenue \n\nTwo rugby fields\, clubhouse\, changerooms\, and ample parking at UKZN Pieter Booysen Sports Park.\n\n The Nashua Green Elly Rugby Festival is more than a sporting event — it is a celebration of opportunity\, empowerment\, and the future of women’s rugby in South Africa. \n\nEvent overview\nProgramme (to come)\nFixtures\n\n
