The Pietermaritzburg Girls' High School Boarding Establishment is housed in a Victorian gem, adjacent to the school and provides a home away from home environment

The Boarding Establishment, which was the original school building, currently houses 220 girls and is under the supervision of the Lady Warden, matrons and boarder mistresses, all of whom live in the Boarding Establishment and are responsible for the welfare and behaviour of the girls.

Grade 8 girls share dormitories as it is easier to make friends this way and it ensures that no girl is ever alone over weekends. A great sense of camaraderie develops in the dormitories.

From Grades 9 to 11, girls share cubicles which each house two girls. In matric most girls have their own room in the senior wing.

The Boarding Establishment has three lounges, homework areas, a sick bay with a full-time sister, computer rooms, Wi-Fi connectivity a games area and a sunny dining area.
